During the time that Europe was in the grip of, which some orchid lovers might say has never passed, Belgium became a dominant force in the cultivation of orchids. Jean Linden (1817-1898) was a famed "orchid hunter" during this time, organizing many trips to hunt orchids in their native habitats all over the world, and importing back to Belgium over a thousand species. Similar to other great enthusiasts of the day, such as Conrad Loddiges in England, he founded a nursery in Brussels with the help of his son. Together, they published this superb work on orchids "Iconographie des Orchidees" in two parts. The first series of 10 volumes was published from 1885-1894 & the second series of 7 volumes from 1895-1901.

As an orchid raiser, it is fair to say that some of these beautiful highly colored lithographs are almost larger than life. The colors are very intense & vivid, with the natural texture of the canvas, I am sure you will agree that this prints are uniquely beautiful.

This canvas print has been carefully restored and recreated onto a heavy 100% cotton canvas and not a fragile paper. Our canvases can be easily rolled to be presented as a gift or retrieved from storage to be unrolled to reveal a fascinating historical conversation piece.

On certain monitors and smart phones, colors may look excessively bright because your screen is lit from behind. I can assure you that the colors will not be so garish when you receive your map. Instead you will be appreciative of the heft and quality of the highly textured canvas, which can sustain a certain amount of rolling up and abuse. These were designed to be heirlooms.

Your canvas print has a protective coating which allows it to be handled with reasonable care and to be framed WITHOUT heavy, breakable, glaring glass. You could also pin you canvas directly to the wall with the map pins provided. Feel free to run your hands along the nicely textured surface.

AN IMPORTANT WORD ABOUT TRIMMING YOUR CANVAS:

Your canvas print will often come with small margin of white border. This can be easily trimmed off with sharp scissors unfinished edges. This provides extra protection in shipping and versatility in the presentation.

If you intend to frame your canvas print, you should not crop your item any further, but leave the excess margin for the framer to deal with.

You can also frame it yourself! Not all that hard to do. A rustic looking frame will enhance its appearance or just use the 4 map pins, provided at no charge, to tack to your wall or message board. There's also a little piece of decorative string to tie your map if you are gifting it!
